Hi! I have a samsung s27a970d, a gigabyte 7950 and a hdmi cable with the following spec: v1.4 HDMI High Speed and HDMI High Speed with Ethernet.
Resolutions up to 4096x2160 at 24Hz.

Still the highest resolution I get is 1920x1080 but if i plug in dvi I get 2560x1440. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that I sometimes want to use the speakers in the monitor so do any of you have a suggestion what is wrong?

Thanks!

My mistake. Samsung and google both direct to the s27a950d when looking for a s27a970d. Which doesn't seem to exist. There was a s27a970.... Either way.

HDMIs capabilities also depend on color depth so maybe something is up there. Update drivers etc. id HIGHLY suggest displayport since your monitor has it. HDMI is always my last choice.
I don't understand the problem... You have a 1080p monitor according to Samsung. you should not be trying to run it at 2560x1440. it will look awful.

HDMI cannot run 120Hz/3D above 1080p which is why you cant select higher, but you shouldn't be trying to run it higher anyway.

My monitor is not 1080p it's a pls screen with spec 2560x1440 at 60hz. And the spec from the graphic card says it could output that (and higher) on hdmi. The graphic card also has a mini display port which could output sound I assume but haven't tried that because I don't have that cable.
