How much space do I need for Windows?

I would like to get an SSD for a Windows 8 boot drive, and I was wondering how big the Windows 8 system files are. What are the system files (like what folders do they include)? How big are the files?

Get a 120GB and you will be fine for sure, anything higher is dependent on what you want, and how much space you need. If your an average PC user 120GB is a perfect spot for you.

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)

RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

The following link provides great tweaks for a SSD:

As edogawa said - 16 GB for 32-bit or 20 GB for 64-bit

However by the time you install updates and all your programs etc it will easily be approaching 30GB if not more. You could get away with a 32GB drive but I would recommend at least 64GB.

Why does it even matter? It's not like it's going to matter what Windows installs, nor can you remove anything.

There is a few things like removing hibernation file, and paging files to free up space too though.

You will likely exceed 20GB by a bit anyway, like mentioned.

Just buy a 120GB drive and be done with, 64gb is way to small unless you can manage it properly.

I want to know if like Appdata is part of it, or program files, or whatever.

Yea...app-data and program files cannot be deleted.
