Hi guys,

I was wondering if I would be ok to install this GPU

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-DirectCU-Graphics-Express-Display/dp/B008NGDG9K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363538723&sr=8-2

or this one

Preferably the silent one, to my computer. Here is the link to my computer specs, all stock apart from I added a standard ddr3 1333mhz 4gb RAM chip.

I don't want to upgrade my PSU just yet. I've heard to GeForce GT640 128-pin can run using my computer, but I also heard Radeon 7750 is a better card...

Thanks in advance :)

7750 definitely a better card than the gt640 No doubt and you wont blowup anything, hopefuly :) Enjoy.
A 7750 will run on your 300w psu.

I think I would pick the graphics card that included a fan. I like silent, but it depends on some sort of cooling airflow. I think your case I somewhat restricted in that regard. A low power card like the 7750 should not have to run the fan at rpm's high enough to be objectionable.

Ok cheers man,

So is the 7750 definitely a better card than the gt640?

I read somewhere that I might get away with a GTX650 but I was dubious about that! Is the 7750 the best card I can get with that PSU do you reckon? Obviously I don't wanna blow my system, but I want the best performance ;)

Yes you can run it it will be fine the HD7750 takes a maximum power of 43w. And the i5 2300 you have typically takes 90-95w maximum draw power on load. The total system power on load would be around 180w (estimate),

Thanks buddy!

Yeh I would prefer silent but performance comes as priority always unless you have an unlimited budget, which I don't lol. Eventually I will stick a 650w V2 Corsair PSU and an Asus GTX660 GPU and play some hardcore gaming haha. All I want this card for is to run SimCity, Football Manager 2013 etc and the G405 just doesn't cut it on SimCity. I was running all low settings in 720 res. I couldn't even run 1080 without the frame rate being super low. Anyway, I guess I'll go ahead and purchase that card now.

Cheers guys for your help :)

The 7750 and the GTX 650 trade blows, with the 7750 slightly better overall. The GTX 650 does use a bit less power, but either should be okay with a 300 power supply. Assuming the power supply isn't a pile of crap.

Thanks for your help,

I have used a couple of websites to estimate the power I will use and most where estimating 250-300w max usage. Surely it can't be as low as 180? CPU 90-95w, GPU 43w, Mobo 40w, RAM 10-20w? Along those lines..

Power supply is stock Internal 300w. I thought GTX650 would be far better. I prefer Nvidia for some reason, even though AMD is usually better. I think it's the top end Nvidia GPU's that make me prefer them, GTX 670/80/90 are just beast GPU's haha!

The 7750 does not need an auxiliary 6 pin pci-e adapter.
It is powered entirely by the pci-e slot which can deliver up to 75w.
The GTX650 cards I have seen do require such a 6 pin adapter to deliver up to an additional 75W.
I doubt that your 300w psu has a 6 pin adapter. Some cards will come with a molex to 6 pin adapter, but I would discourage their use.
A GT640 can probably run if your psu can deliver 20a on the +12v rails.

Why not just replace the psu with an inexpensive Corsair CX430 for $35 after rebates?

You can then install a graphics card as good as a GTX650 or a 7850.
