This question has been asked a lot, i know because ive used this forum extensivly for help on my gaming build. As the question states i need help with an AMD processor for my gaming build. I was originally going to go with the FX 6300, however I dont think i will have enough money for awhile and i really want to get gaming. My current build is:
cooler master storm black case
scyth kaze fan controller
blue ray drive
cooler master 650 watt modular ps
gigabyte ga-990-fax-ud3 mb
6gb of xms ram (clocked at 1600)
antec 620 water cooler
wireless card
and i purchased a 7950 yesterday (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131478)
Right now i have like 90$ to spend on a preocessor, and would really like some help deciding whether to wait to get the fx 6300, or get a cheaper 4 core. computer will be used for gaming, and netflix on 2 monitors (1650x1200 each)

thanks

I also should mention i still need a HD. I have an external (USB 3.0) that i was going to try to use until i can buy a real one..

If you can afford the 6300, get it, will pair up beautifully with a 7950.
Other than that, if you're really desperate, can't afford the 6300, an a8/a6, though your gaming performance will not be as great as it would with a 6300.
In terms of what I would get being from best to meh [6300 --> 4300 -->A8/A6].

There are a couple cheap Phenom II X4s on sale. They're on equal ground with the FX6300 in gaming and can be overclocked as well

Bear in mind though, depending on the game, that CPU can bottleneck the card. But it's not too bad. Just don't expect Core i5 performance. You know you have a CPU bottleneck when others with the i5+7950 gets better frame rates than you do.

I'm always a future safeguarder, if you know what I mean. The phenom's are truly good CPUs, but as the future comes and better GPUs are coming out, the phenom's WILL bottleneck. Invest now and spend less later.
(says the safeguard in me, haha)

Just wanted to update on my desicion. I went eith the 6300. Its a beast! Farcry 3 completely maxed and i get 50% cpu usage.(And at 50 frames per sec d) I have an antec watercooler and it keeps it below 60 celsious under full load so im really pleased.
