Where am I being bottlenecked?

I want to know where I am being bottlenecked, while running games on ultra settings I maintain a steady 60fps. But I will sometimes lag and drop frame rates while in extensive encounters. I have a $120 budget, find which of my computer parts is slowing me down and then post an upgrade that is around $120.

My computer specs:
Monitor: ASUS VH236H 23"

Run Afterburner and check your GPU usage. If you are running at 99% GPU usage in that particular game, then you have no bottleneck. If you are running at less than 99% GPU usage, particularly if its closer to 50% or less in that particular game, then you have a CPU bottleneck.

The CPU is probably the main problem right now. You may want to look into getting a new one, the 6870 is still a great card and should perform just fine in about every game @ med setting and higher. But both are limiting factors in your pc, just one more so than the other.

you don't have enough money for an upgrade. turn back the graphics settings in the games control panel until you find the sweet spot.

your video card does NOT have enough vram and the textures are off loading.

viable solution........... gtx660/7870 or better card with 2gigs of vram. and I would go "better".

save your money.

This is probably a good option, the saving part of it. Your computer should be fine as is, but spending only a little money on an upgrade is not worth it. You will find better performance in a year with money saved than you would buying parts with your budget as of the status qou.

All I did was diagnose the bottleneck, this is the best option to take.

There's pretty much nothing you could do to fix that build for $120. you could try an overclock on the CPU running on 4 cores. Although that's a bad board for it.

You must be on a very low resolution monitor if your getting 60FPS on ultra so vram should not be an issue and it's probably your CPU.

If it's only in extended encounters check your temps, turn down AA or another setting, or just go to high. Although 60FPS isn't necessary anyway
