Hi,
Currently at home my family use a talktalk huawei router, this router cant be changed as its set up to receive fiber optic broadband (stipulated by the isp). My family all connect to it via wireless. What i would like to do is set up a 'private' network in my room.
My idea is to run an Ethernet cable from the router to my room and attach a switch or a hub to it and create a wireless and wired access point and connect all my devices in my room to it via Ethernet and wireless. in effect creating a network in my room and using the current router as access to the internet.
What i will also be doing is using an old laptop and an external drive as an ftp server as well in my room, ill use filezilla server most likely to run this.
What my question is really, is as i am sure its possible, but what switch hub, and access point should i buy, preferably cheap and wireless n.
Secondly once i create the network would i still be able to access my old laptop via ftp through the router and into my network.
I hope this all makes sense.
