Gaming pc or laptop

Now, I have a choice between a gaming laptop or a gaming computer.
I am in 1st year of 6th form and it's 1 more year then I go to Uni, don't worry I am still studying loads.
I go round to my friends house to play, like a week a year, so the laptop is obviously great for portability. The downside is that it costs a lot of money, being a laptop.
The computer on the other hand is quite a bit cheaper but not so portable. I can have a bigger screen and is probably a bit better gaming experience. Pro gamers use computers.
Cost:
Laptop: £1100 roughly, (I am customising it myself)
PC: £800 (not including monitor, including keyboard and mouse). (and customising myself)
I do want to eventually take to Uni but at the moment I am still at home, space at home is not an issue.
Please help and give opinions. Thank you.

get a desktop because you can upgrade it down the road once more demanding games come out. with a laptop you won't be able to and you will loose more money by selling it to get a newer one to get playable framerates and with desktops you can overclock to get more performance out of your components

desktop for sure, u can easily build a small form factor gaming pc that u could still be able to transport to your friends place anyways and have future options to upgrade it as alvine said

If you're on the go all the time and mildly game, get a laptop.

If you're a heavy gamer, get a desktop.

I have thought about getting a laptop to supplement my desktop but when I'm out of the house or away from my desktop, I don't even find any need for having a laptop, hence, me using a desktop. Also, with getting a desktop, it offers more flexibility in terms of upgrade paths e.g. swapping our older parts for newer parts, etc.

It really depends on what your lifestyle is and how you use a computer.

Go Desktop if you want to play with full-on graphics and sound and you're willing to sit in the same spot while playing. This is the ultimate experience, though stationary. You get what you pay for with a desktop. You can use standard drivers for your GPU for as long as you find this PC useful. You can also usually reuse a lot of parts when you upgrade the platform. They also cost less $$$$ per performance level.

Go Laptop if you need it mobile and are willing to sacrifice the eye candy. It's been my experience that you can't expect too much out of a laptop even if you pay a lot for it. I haven't been too impressed with any company's mobile GPU offerings. You're also at the mercy of the laptop producer to keep up with tweaked drivers since just about every component in a laptop is tweaked for the particular build (GPU included). They usually keep up with laptop drivers for less than two years. I see laptops more as a disposable option. Cost more $$$ per performance level.
