Hi,
I have Verizon DSL (using the Actiontec GT784WNV modem/router combo). I have a second desktop windows XP and I need a USB adapter. Is there a certain one that is needed for this equipment? As simple as this question sounds, I have gotten mixed replies elsewhere. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

The router runs the industry standard 802.11n wireless protocol. Pretty much any USB wireless adapter you can find will work. The only concern would be support of windows xp. You would need to read the list of supported OS. I am going to assume you have patch your windows xp system...very old ones do not support WPA/WPA2.

Thank you for your response. I tried an old Netgear USB adapter I had and a Verizon tech said some Netgear products are not supported with certain Verizon equipment, something about like you wrote, if it's an older operating system, it may not work right or at all. I did get the patch and then the Netgear USB worked, but it was extremely slow. So, I bought a $25 D-Link USB and it seems to be working fine. It's not super fast, but it's halfway decent, enough speed for me to check mails, do some financial things and browse. Thank you for your response. Getting the patch for XP and the D Link USB seems to be the answer. Again, thank you.
