New Build Problem

I finally got everything today for my first ever build. Took the day off work to put it together and get it up and running. Followed all instructions given, and here's what happens:

I flip on the power supply, and I see the green LED on the motherboard light up, as well as the blue light next to my video card (labeled "my_stat" that flashes whether the video card is in or not). I press the power button on the front, and simultaneously I can hear a click from the PSU and the LEDs on the front panel of the case flash on and then shut off. About 12 seconds later, I hear the click and the front LEDs turn on and shut off. This repeats for as long as I have the power supply switched on.

So, I followed all the advice in the sticky (make sure all connections are in, verified standoff positions, I tried with and without the video card in (when in, fully seated), swapped RAM and checked position, checked everything CPU related- no bent pins, seated the right way, plastic cover removed, heatsink seated properly). Even removed the motherboard onto the cardboard box it came with and rechecked everything (and the bare minimum connections) and the same thing happens. No fans turn on- not the heat sink for the CPU, none of the chassis fans either.

I don't have a speaker for the motherboard so I can't check for any beeps.

I'm wondering where I should start. I feel like the motherboard is fine since the power LED is lit. I plan on ordering a 650 watt power supply to swap out with the stock 500 watt PSU that came with my tower. That's where I'm starting, but does anybody have any further suggestions?

Solution
A word of advice: Never (ever) use the power supply that comes with a case, especially a Raid-Max case. I will bet you that the culprit is a terrible quality power supply, and that a new 650W (hopefully from a good manufacturer?) will fix it.

I already went through all of that. The only thing I would say I didn't do was clean and re-apply thermal paste after I separated the CPU from the heatsink.

To the other replies about stock PSU's, I'm really hoping thats the case. I just don't know how if its a bad PSU, how the Standby light on the MOBO can still be on. I would've assumed it would be fully shot.

Well the PSU isn't necessarily non-functioning, it just supplies a far smaller amount of power than what is need. It is able to supply the power for an LED, but when given the load that your computer uses, it fails.

I've had a very similar problem in the past with an old build. My machine didn't keep trying to turn on, but it did click and flash on, then shut down, and the motherboard lights were on as they should have been. The culprit was a bad power supply.

My best guess is that it's your power supply.

im sure (because you told me the process you went through already) that the psu is gone unfortunitly as you have already ruled everything out you could try a new power board that your plugging into thats about all thats left.

Alright. I appreciate the fast responses and the help...sounds like I'm on the right track. If anybody else has ideas, feel free to post them. I'll post here Wednesday or Thursday once I have a new PSU installed and hopefully will let you know of my success!
