i have 500 gb external hdd but not detected in my computer but there is spinning sound and also like a clicking sound.. and light is blinking on.. what to do? is there a chance i could fix my hdd to able to use it again or atleast recover my data.. thanks... pls do help

A clicking sound can indicate a failing or failed hard drive. First, do not attempt to write any more data to the drive as this decreases the chances of you recovering any data. Second, try the drive on another computer, if you can, and if it works attempt to recover data from it. Third, check the drive maker's web site for disk checking tools and check the drive for errors.

If it is a 2.5 inch drive, Ensure your usb ports are able to power it. Sometimes they sound like they are clicking when they are trying to fire up without enough power.

Failing that, Take apart the case and try the drive in a computer as that is the best way to get data back.

do i need to open the case? but i dont know.. its seagate free agent gofles drive.. kinda latest.. i dont know how to put it in pc.. but i watch video of other hardrive that is old model.. looks like it was easy..

at 500 gigabytes, chances are its sata. So the plugs should match any modern system.

You can just sit it in the case, it does not even need to be screwed in, just done let anything metal short out on the bottom of it.

Take extra care as laptop drives(2.5inch) have thinner tops and CAN be crushed if less force then a desktop drive.
