I have a GTX 680, 1 HDMI screen, and 2 VGA screens. Two are working, and I don't know how to set up the final VGA monitor to have 3 screens total.

This is my current monitor/port configuration on my GTX 680:

Here's two options I've come up with:
Options

Will any of these options work successfully to support extended displays and Nvidia surround? Which is best? Are there better options?

The problem is trying to connect 2 analog devices (VGA) and you only have one port that supports the necessary digital-to-analog conversion (DVI-I). If you have the option to attach DVI cables directly to the displays, you'll be able to use all three monitors. Otherwise, you can only use 2 of them.

Then what is the purpose of DisplayPort to VGA adapters such as this?

Those sorts of active adapters "should" work, but if you looked around the forums, you would see many issues using them. Image quality is often poor (degraded).

Do you have this adapter now?

No but I'll probably be picking it up tomorrow probably... I rang them up earlier today and they seemed to think that it would work. I'm not sure why it shouldn't?
