Windows 8 Issues

I've owned this Windows 8 laptop for 6 months. I'm not a new user to the laptop and am an admin user on the laptop.

I've had past issue by which my network printer shows as offline and Windows 8 refuses to print to it, while I can hop on my Windows 7 laptop or desktop and print without issue. Removing the printer and adding it back under printers and devices get the printer functioning again from Windows 8.

In Windows 8 I've also had issues by which 'The logon service has failed to start' appears when trying to logon. Powering the PC off and then turning it back on always allows me to login without an issue.

Last night, I logged into my Windows 8 PC with my picture password and Windows 8 presented me with the 'Hi'-screen and the subsequent new user "setting up your PC to use Windows 8" message followed by the "This will take a few minutes message" and this never resolves. You have to have a profile on the PC in order to have a picture password. At any rate, powering the PC off and then turning it back on always allows me to login without an issue.

I guess my biggest worry is the fact that the PC treated me as if this were the first time I've used it? Is this maybe just one of those quirks from a Windows update or something? Anyone else seeing this issue?

Sounds like a profile or permission issue. Im assuming you are logging in with a local account and not a Mircrosoft account. Personally instead of trailing thru the registry try just creating another local admin account, see if that resolves your issue. Also with regards to the printer can you right click the printer and select make available online?

This is actually a MS account with admin rights on the PC.

When I look at 'Devices and Printers' under control panel, it shows my printer as the default and the printer status as 'offline'. There is no option to switch it to online through the right-click context menu, but I am able to re-find it on the network and add it as a new printer to print to it.
