Trying to connect to my Router

Hi,

I have a modem/router device that my ISP gave me.
I also have my own Router (Lynksys).
I have used this router before, but havent used it for a while.
Apparently the modem/router that my ISP gave me is poorer than the router I have, so I would like to switch the modem/router into bridge mode to allow use of my router (I know this is getting confusing).

Anyway, I cant connect to my router to change the SSID and other information to allow it to broadcast the wireless signal when I switch the modem/router into bridge mode.

I put the 192.168.1.1 ip address in the browser, but it does not connect.
I tried 192.168.2.1, 192.168.0.1 also.

Also, I'm not sure if this is right or wrong, but when I connect my router with ethernet, I am assigned the ip address 169.255.x.x and subnet mask is 255.255.x.x

If anyone can recommend some steps that might help fix the problem, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

try this. 192.168.0.1 that's what you need to do.

I see that you tried that. Take the suggestion provided above and go from there. It would help to know what the modem/router you have from your ISP.

Almost all modem/routers provided by ISPs respond to the 192.168.0.1. What I think might have happened is that someone hijacked it and switched the address and left your SSID on so you wouldn't notice. I suggest that you pick it up and preset the reset button and that should take it back to manufacture settings and you can log in with 192.168.0.1 So give it a shot!
