My 32 gig sd card will only load 11 gigs of data. This is a brand new card. I am using the card in laptop running windows seven home premium 64 bit. Any suggestions?

Thats really weird, perhaps something is defective or you formatted it with 11gb, just reformat it, or, take it back and tell them that and Im sure you'll get a new one, no biggy :)

A. Does windows show 32GB or just 11GB?
B. What's the partition state?
C. Tried another card reader?
D. Tried another computer?
E. Tried running something like DD and seeing how much raw data it can dump to the card before it hits the end of the card? (This is my favorite one)

With the information you gave it's next to impossible to determine the problem, let alone find a solution.

Why do people always default to "RMA it"? It's a waste of your time, the companies time, shipping costs, wait times, etc..

99.99% of the time it's an issue that can be fixed in an hour or two at no extra cost. Personally, I'd rather sit down for an hour and fix it than wait another two weeks for them to ship another one (Which may also have the same issue).

Its an SD card, they cost like $20 to like 35, plus they usually sell them in stores, driving up and getting a new one or determining the problem would not be a bag thing.

flamehead269, that's a triple post, I think we all understood your opinion in the first post!!

I think the issue here is as to why only 11gb can be "loaded". Ummm don't you mean data copied to the device?

Well, I've heard that some manufacturers are overstating the total volume of their flash emory drives however, this is an sd memory card drive so that might not apply.

What brand is it? Sandisk?
Do you use one of those sd card slots that some later model laptops utilize, or is it an external card reader connected to a usb port?

What model /brand is the laptop?

It might be that the slot, if in the side of the laptop, might require drivers to work properly, check Device Manger and see if any exclamation marks for that slot .

PerfectlyFrank, you also triple posted, what the heck is going on?

Perhaps, rather than posting what Automatic Coding had said, you answer my Questions.

You can't install or load anything into an sd ram card, it's for storage of music or whatever.
