can anyone help me with this issue? my xbox 360 disc drive wont read any disks. its getting power and it tries for a second to read them, spinning a couple times then my xbox will give me the open/close disc tray option like its not even acknowledging theres even a disk in it. i have the tools to fix it myself but dont know where to start. if anyone can give me any insight on what to do id appreciate it.
Get access to the disk laser. There are plenty of online tutorials on how to do it. Once you have opened the console and found the laser, clean it off with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Then, before you close your console, put a game on the tray and turn on the 360 and if that does not work you will need to buy a new laser off of Amazon or Ebay or whatever and replace the laser.
Keep the system open when you test a game so if it doesn't work you don't have to open it back up again.
I had a buddy with the same problem and he would just lightly smack his xbox when he closed the tray and the game would work. Not a good answer to the problem, but if you don't want to take it apart its an old school NES solution.
unfortuantely the xbox's optical drive is tied to the motherbd. You can replace the laser or you can replace the whole optical drive if you swap in the old drives logic bd in place of the new one. A new drive is about $40 (us)
If the logic bd is shot or you manage to screw it up, you're looking at buying a new xbox.
