All of a sudden, my computer started to have this problem. Everytime I turn it on, it's fine for a few minutes then bam, nothing works. I can still move the mouse around and click on start. If I try to run an application, the application doesn't load at all. I can click refresh, but the wheel shows up and nothing happens. If I try to turn it off, everything disappears except for the desktop background. Nothing happens, it can't even turn off, so I am forced to remove the power. This started in the morning but it only happened once, then it started to happen more frequently until it happens everytime I turn it on. I tried restoring it to a previous version but the same problem occurred. I am assuming it is a hardware problem.

Specs:
PCU: AMD FX-4100 Bulldozer
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950 2gb.
PSU: 850W Thermaltake.
RAM: 8gb
Plenty of cooling.

Sounds like the hard drive is getting ready to fail or has failed. could also be the ram. Are you getting blue screens?

Hi :)

Run a hard drive test in DOS... HIRENS BOOT CD etc, it sounds like a failing hard drive...

All the best Brett :)

Is there any way I can safely transfer the data to another hard drive? I have about 1 terabyte of data and I don't want to lose it.

Any luck running it in safe mode? If it holds up fine in safe mode you could be having a driver issue with a new program or spyware/malware. Try safemode first.
