Hello all, I have recently built a new Windows 8 gaming computer and the PC is great but the biggest bottleneck at this point for me is my old 17" standard monitor... I am looking to upgrade without spending a fortune. I would like to purchase a touchscreen monitor so I can get the full functionality out of Windows 8 but it seems like there are very few out there! What I want is a monitor under $250, HD, HDMI, 21+ inches with touch. It seems somewhat silly to purchase a monitor without touch b/c I would like for it to last for years. Are touchscreen monitors not practical? Too expensive?

Do you guys think touchscreen monitors are over-rated and I am just better going for a standard monitor?

Concerns, Testimonials, Suggestions, Recommended Brands are all welcomed...

Thanks in advance,
Brock

I built a pc for my technology adverse wife. She seemed to think touchscreen would help since she has troubles with mice.
I bought a Planar PXL2430MW 24" monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824016174
It really is a nice monitor and touchscreen works well with windows 7.(did not like windows 8)
I still prefer a mouse, and the display stays cleaner.
I suggest you look for a high quality IPS based monitor.
They will have a 178/178 viewing angle.
That keeps the display from washing out when not looking directly head on.

Those are great suggestions guys but it looks like the touchscreen monitors are just too expensive at this point. I will probably purchase a cheaper HD Display to use for a while until the touchscreen models go down in price a little... Do any of you have any suggestions for good brands, good features, bad features or things to look out for when shopping? I know buying monitors can be more tricky than one would think...
