I have an Asus P8Z77V mobo which of course has only one plug for USB 3.0. There are two 3.0s in the case and I have purchased a card reader which has two more 3.0s on it. My question is, rather than leaving two of them dead, is there a y adapter cable which will serve so that I may plug both of the connectors to the motherboard and will it degrade performance?

I don't think the ports are splitable

You could try getting an USB3 extension cable to run from the USB3 back panels of which you have alot and run them to connect to either to the card reader or to the mb ones

You can also add in a USB header pcie card
