My computer will start, POST, and get to the OS selection screen, but when I select Windows 8, the monitor will flash between turning off and black (the LCD kind of black because of the screen's backlighting). It was working earlier today, and my roommate said that the only thing he did was write something on Word. Thoughts?

By the way, I just obtained a new graphics card last night (EVGA GTX 480), but it was working when I plugged it in.

UPDATE: When the monitor is blank (black and NOT off), I can see my mouse.

check to see if the mb and windows 8 is switching from gpu to onboard and back. see if the onboard video is now the main video. what i would try if the onboard video is working fine..download the newest mb chipset drivers and then the newest ipgpu and gpu drivers. then reboot and go into the bios..make sure peg/pci is set as first video output..then see if muilt monitor support is on. you can leave it on if you want both chipset on. or turn it off once the issue is fixed. also boot into safe mode and see if you installed mvp software that bonds the ipgpu and gpu together. the software that shipped with mb vendors is buggy the newest paid version is more stable.myself i dont use it if you have a good gpu.
