I have just recently built a new computer, and have been trying to get windows on it for the past 3 days. I started by testing the system by installing ubuntu 12.04 and installing all the drivers. Everything checked out okay.

So then I went to try and install win7 ultimate x64 via a USB thumb drive, and every time I try to start the installation it gives me the same error:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. "(Unable to install Windows 7 ~ never even get to the install portion).

Now normally, you'd say "Oh! That's the installer!", or perhaps "That's the ISO", or "That's the disc".

Well the problem is the following:

A) I have no CD/DVD drive installed

B) I've tried 3 different boot utilities to load the ISO onto my USB thumb drive

C) I've tried different ISO's from MS website, and none of them work.

D) I've even tried manually formatting/partitioning the USB stick I'm using to get this to work and still nothing.

E) YES THE HDD IS IN IDE MODE.

Yes, a working copy of ubuntu is still technically installed on the system and it boots fine. I havent even been able to hop on the formatting utility of win7 to actually scrub the HDD yet.
