Hi Everyone

I have had an HP XW6200 Workstation for numerous years and on the whole it's been a good solid machine, but now it's starting to get a little slow/show it's age

The spec is as follows:

Windows XP
2 x 3.4GHz Xeon Processors
1 x 160GB Samsung Hard Drive for main OS
1 x 500GB Samsung HD for storage
4GB RAM
Nvidia Quadro NVS285

The machine's main use is Photoshop (I'm a web designer by trade) and also receives a fair amount of work in Illustrator too.

Has anyone got any recommendations that would help to speed the system up given it's age and use?

Cheers

Matt

a new graphics card wouldn't hurt. but the best thing to do is get an ssd and put windows 7 on it huge speed boost and also a good idea because windows xp has only 2 years to go :(

Thanks for the prompt reply :)

What would you recommend in terms of a graphics card as I don't tend to use the machine for games? Is it worth me sourcing a used Quadro FX Card from eBay for example?
Likewise, the SSD? A couple of friends have put them in their Macbook Pros and informed me of significant speed boosts.

I need to mindful of budget though otherwise I could end up spending more than the machine is worth :)

don't spend to much on this thing because i can get a totaly standard one on ebay for 150€
for the ssd i would say buy yourself an sandisk extreme 120gb (about 90€ new)
for the graphics card i would reccomend not to go quadro or firepro but just get yourself an hd 7750 (or hd 7770/ gtx 650) because you are mainly fotoshopping.
