Microsoft basic render driver with XFX 7970 Ghz?

Howdy
I've had a XFX HD 7970 Ghz for about two months and occasionally run some benchmarks to see if everything works as it should.
Yesterday I played Tomb Raider and noticed that the fps went down a bit and it lagged a bit. I ran the Unigine Heaven to compare with previous results, and as I thought, my score had dropped in comparison with previous results. Earlier, it used to be around 1850-1950 points, now its 1700-1730 (running on the same settings of course). Moreover, now the GPU model is Microsoft Basic Render Driver. It was AMD previously ... I have tried uninstalling drivers, erase with drive fusion, go back to the old drivers. Nothing works.

Suggestions on what I should do? Why does it even say Microsoft basic render driver instead of AMD?

I have windows 8, 64 bit.

I had the same thing happen to me. It's easy to get rid of it. Uninstall anything AMD. Reboot the System and put in the disc that came with it. Install that driver and CCC. Once that is done, restart your PC and go to AMD and download the 13.3 version and install that and all will be well. The last update from MSFT messed up, I even don't have power options because of it so yah you're not the only one. I hope this helps as it worked for me. Cheers!

I just remembered something. This is what I did.

Go to Control Centre then Administrative tools then Computer management then Device manage. Open the Display adapter by clicking on it and unistall it from there. Click yes. Reboot your system. Once it logs in, pop in the CD and install from there. Once it's done with, reboot again and install the 13.3 driver. That should work. That's how I did it. Now I am back to using my Titan, I just couldn't live with 30% less framerates in Crysis 3!

That didnt work either :/  But i googled the problem and didnt find that many with the same problem. I know that the latest catalyst 13.3 beta 3, Resolves OpenGL application issues with the AMD Catalyst 13.3 Beta2 driver. Maybe the beta 2 caused the problem?

That could possibly be it. What I did worked for me when I had the card. Maybe rollback to 13.1?
