i was told the 7850 would work in my computer so im assuming that the 7770 will to, and the 7770 has a lower price, so will the 7770 be much worse than the 7850, or is it woth the price jump?

More about : 7850 7770

It depends on what you want to do and what CPU you have. If you have a fast cpu like an i5 or i7 and are playing high graphics games like metro 2033 the 7850 is almost twice as fast.

Its like 90% increase in performance for a 50% increase in price.

the 7850 has about twice the power of the 7770 .. it's an entirely different tier of card. additionally, the OC celing with the 7850 is *much* higher.

having said that, the 7770 isn't a bad choice for the money, you can expect great performance up to 1680x1050 and reasonable up to 1920x1080 in most mainstream games.

The distance between these 2 cards is pretty large. The performance difference between these two cards is exactly why AMD will introduce a HD7790 to cover the gap.

The hierarchy so far is ...HD7850>GTX650Ti>HD7770.... So you see there is a whole performance class you'll be skipping by down-grading. The prices of the 7850's can be as low as 140 bucks (check the XFX editions, and the PowerColor editions), that's only just a bit more than a HD7770. The GTX650Ti's are always hovering >140 bucks, so those are not economically the best for performance.

The gap is pretty significant and the 7850 has tons more OC room from stock
The gap is to be apparently filled by the 7790

Yes. It is a fairly significant difference.

Get the 7850 if you can.

Or you can wait for the 7790 that will bridge the gap between the 7770 and 7850. It will be out soon.
