I would like to install my new Corsair H80i but I need to safely remove the stock cooler and thermal paste from the CPU beforehand. I need some input on how to accomplish my goal without bending pins or dripping liquid under the processor. The purpose for the install is overclocking to reach 4.6ghz.

Solution
Rotate the pins in the direction of the arrow. The arrow points to the unlocked position. Wiggle and pull each plastic retainer pin up until it clicks. Once all 4 are up the cpu cooler should just come off. Don't forget the fan wire.

Clean off the thermal paste with a low lint rag, or even a bit of paper towel. Some people like TP. You can clean the metal top of the cpu with a q-tip and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol.

Google it, there are plenty of videos on YouTube that will show you step by step how to setup and install your cooler. My suggestion is to watch a few of them and then tackle the installation, it'll be much easier than us typing out a step by step guide here.

You prly bit off more than you can chew if you need assistance with this. you're going to have to remove the motherboard from the case entirely to be able to get the mounting bracket on it. The H80i will have good directions, but you'll still need to know ur way around a PC...

I already know how it works in general. I just decided to get some input from forum members beforehand because I highly regard Toms Hardware users. Also, my case has removable panels on both sides so I can access the back of the motherboard.

My h80i is cooling and spinning. Thanks. Now I just need some good OC'ing software.

I used the basic auto OC and set it to performance which gave me a stable 4.2Ghz OC.
Thanks for the guide. I will use it to clock at 4.6Ghz when I get off work today.

yeah no problem, it's a very basic guide, but it helps you get the BIOS settings you need down, then the rest is just trial and error. The auto OC stuff can get you stable, but I've found that they usually go higher on the voltage than a manual overclock, and less voltage is always better in the OC world lol. Good Luck, if you have any questions or concerns, you can always PM me, if I don't know the answer, I can always find out :)

I am now experiencing all sorts of power issues... After I installed Corsair link it started giving me warnings... "warning +3.3v 0.00v"... "warning +5v 1.27v". What is going on? I figured my 900w PSU could handle my components. Was I wrong?

The warnings are coming from the Corsair Link software. Yes, I am still using the auto overclock. I'm planning on manually OC'ong tomorrow. Also, I haven't experienced any system crashes. So it seems like nothing.

Having never used the Corsair stuff before I'm not quite sure what it is monitoring. Try disabling the auto overclock to see if that stops the warnings, sometimes (and one of the main reasons I steer clear of the auto OC) those settings are too high on voltage, or they don't regulate an offset enough, so your voltages will skyrocket and jump all over the place, which can be bad lol. Let me know if it goes away after you manually OC, if not there may be another problem. In the meantime I'll check out the Corsair software and see what it's like :)

As it turns out the warnings are actually from ASUS Suite II. I guess I'm giving ASUS a call today.

I turned off the auto-OC and play tested FarCry 3 for 30 minutes. I didn't get any warnings this time. So, the auto-OC does seem to be the issue. Do you think I will see better results if I do it manually?
