Intel DZ77GA-70K: Bios work great with configure jumper, but F7 and all other update methods don't work .

I purchased an intel DZ77GA-70k, populated it with an intel core i7 3770k LGA 1155 processor, an nvidia evga gtx 660ti, 16gb of vengeance ddr3 1600, a pair of Samsung 840pro 128gb SSD's, and a miscellaneous sata cd drive.

Current bios 0039

If I set the jumper to configure and plug an HDMI cable into the 660ti it posts right to the visual bios. Oddly without having to hit F2(enter bios)

If I try to hit F7 (update bios) at post, it ignores me and goes straight to the visual bios as it does described above, without being prompted to.
Is this behavior because I'm in configure mode?

Do I need my jumper set to normal in order to get it into F7?

Any help would be tremendously appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

Yes, jumper must be set to normal to enter bios update mode.
Received an update fail, but my bios show 0064 and I can enter bios, so I assume it worked regardless
