ok need some advise on hdd graphic card and psu want to improve them all to what this machine can handle safely but not the best cant afford a lot at one time so need help with were to start

I have backed up all my files going to get an external hd to put everything on quess this is the thing to do never had this happen before have another computer to use kept as a back up but it wont run the sims 3 the sims 3 is the only game I play and it has causes overheating so just let me know what will run the sims 3 on this computer as low as I can go may have to do a little at a time
