My brand new PC, can't even play some games on low..

I just built my first PC

-Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz
-ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Mobo
-Geforce GTX 650 Ti superclocked 2048MB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16
-Thermaltake TR2 600W ATX
-Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3
-Toshiba 1TB HD and SanDisk 128gb SSD

my internet is 18 down / 1.5 up, but i NEVER had problems running these big games on my gaming laptop.

i downloaded the drivers for the mobo on the disk, went to intel.com and downloaded the latest graphics driver, and downloaded the latest drivers on nvidia.com for my gpu.

is there something im missing? maybe theres some settings i need to tinker with.

so far i can't play Blacklight Retribution. it lags horribly and sometimes even crashes when i try to join a lobby.

Rage has alot of texture pop-in as expected but also has unbelieveably long load times and lag.

Diablo 3 runs fine but lags a bit if i run max settings.

i installed both rage and blacklight to my ssd and still runs like crap.

EDIT: it seems like im having a problem rendering texture. especially when i turn my character, the game takes too long to load the textures and lags.

Got an Antec Kuhler 620 myself, it'll fit in basically any system with a 120mm fan slot and a decent amount of clearance behind it. If you have a standard kind of case, I'd just get a basic air cooler in the Hyper 212 Evo vein. It's likely to be cheaper, simpler to set up and probably quieter overall. The reason I use one is because my case is a bit of an awkward shape and I wanted something very quiet, so I use it with 2 low speed fans.

One thing I would say is that if you built this system yourself and didn't correctly install the Intel Stock cooler correctly (which is very simple) then you might have a few issues with any non standard HSF as a lot of them have backplates which can get a little fiddly compared to the 4 clicks of the...

First thing I'd do is check temperatures, both CPU and GPU. It's always a good place to start.

The 650Ti is a solid enough mid level card but if you are trying to run stuff at really high resolutions then it's going to run out of juice. This shouldn't effect your loading times though.

Also the words "Thermaltake TR2" are never reassuring, the older versions were really really awful and the newer versions are at best mediocre but not very good value. Probably not likely to be causing issues though.

Your only bad choice was the PSU, I wont be surprised if its not giving enough power. But I am more inclined to believe its a driver issue. Honestly, ther is no diference at all getting latest drivers for mobo. As a matter of fact, you should keep with the one provided in the CD, but you do need latest for the GPU. Do not go for Intel or Nvidia, go for the mobo/gpu manufacturer. 10 years ago it was recomended to get the chip designer's driver but nowadays is recomended to get the manufacturer's driver as to be 100% compatible with the exclusive features

For a PSU, I recomend Cooler Master Silent Pro. This brand has evolved to the point its offering amazing PSUs, altough most people still fear the brand.

i tried different res but im not too sure.

for blacklight retribution, the nvidia control panel compatability does not recommended the game, but says "some objects render at wrong depth Some effects render incorrectly Go to: Settings/Video/Advanced Dynamic Shadows = off."

M/B : 31C/ 87F
GPU: 27C / 80F Load 2% Fan:20%

while playing rage:

CPU: 90c/ 192F
M/B: same
GPU: 39C/ 102F Load 32% Fan: 20%

I heard all the bad stuff about tr2 as well. i might just return it as it did start getting loud for no reason one day but then went back to being quiet.

Hmm if you are crashing at the lobby, i dont think it is an hardware issue. Did you try reinstalling the game? Also check your intenet connection with speedtest and pingtest.

As for Diablo 3 lagging at max settings, that might be normal with your setup.

Also you CPU temps are exceptionally high. I recommend reapplying thermal paste and making sure the cooler is connected correctly. Might have to invest in an aftermarket cooler

with the new mb there set to have the onboard gpu be the first video output. check in the bios that the gpu/peg/pci is the primany display. if muilt monitor support is on make sure you have your video cable connected to the gpu and not to the intel mb. connected to the mb port will only get you intel gpu. check that gpu has all the power plugs connected and the 4/8 pin pci power connector on the mb is plugged in. also check that your mb has the newest bios.

CPU temp stands out as a massive issue. On the stock cooler you should get maybe 35-40degrees idle and 50-60ish under load. Of course those are just figures plucked out of the air, and your real temps will be dependant on room temps, and airflow, but 90degrees is right at the top end of the CPUs absolute operating temperature. I think by 95 or so the PC should automatically shut down.
Definitely investigate how well the CPU cooler is seated, how well any thermal paste is applied, and whether or not the fan is moving.

it's not overclocked. it's going over 100C for diablo 3. i'll have to check the heat sink

dude, it is dangerously hot. Im surprised your pc didnt crash. Normal load temps would be below 60C. Like i said before, reapply thermal paste and make sure the cooler is installed correctly. Might be a good idea to get an aftermarket cooler.

the heatsink comes with thermal on it, should i wipe that off and put it all on myself? the pre-applied thermal is also a pretty lousy job

i built it myself lol its my first time at this so im still learning. the cpu had no thermal paste on it, just a shoddy amount on the heatsink. i'll have to pick some up tomorrow. im thinking of picking up an aftermarket cooler as well. any suggestions? i was thinking about the antec kuhler h2o 620 but im not sure if it will fit in my system

That is a CPU problem.

My 3570k doesnt get near that hot, even when I did prime95, and I use the stock cooler. (I will be OCing eventually, when I decide on a cooler for it)
