I have my 965 BE on stock colling running at 3.7 with only Multi changed. i work at Best Buy and found a cooler that i get a really good deal on and looks like the 212 everyone is talking about. will it be good enough for 3.9-4.0 gigs on my 965? maybe just better than stock?

the cooler master 212? for sure it will be much better. the stock cooler is crap for OCing. Its only meant to be used at stock speeds. How much can you get it for?

ok saw the link. Its a rocket fish cooler. It would still be better than stock assuming they didn't put really cheap material in it. I've seen no reviews on it so cant say for sure. But it depends how much it costs for you.

just order the cooler master 212 evo. I run 4.046 on that cooler and its only $35 max. cheaper with rebates. the 212+ needs more work to spread the paste because of the gaps on the mating surface and the 212 evo has much less of a gap. well worth the extra 5-10 bucks IMHO.

I get the rocketfish for $13, the reciews are really good BUT i prefer this site. i am gonna but from BestBuy because i have some employee cash to spend around 40$ or so figured if the rocket fish will cool it its worth $13

The TX3 should give slightly better performance, and is slightly cheaper

Honestly the STARS architecture chips top out about 4Ghz no mater how well you cool them. You might get a few hundred megahertz more with a custom water loop. So while Rocketfish generally means cheap junk as long as that cooler is better than stock you can probably hit 4Ghz with it.

Don't ever buy their brand power supplies though. Or really anything else Rocketfish brand.

I ran my Phenom 965 at 3.8ghz with the stock cooler never going above 57c in Prime for over 20hours, my case cooling was good, but with a small step up you should have no issues getting to around 4.0ghz. Even the Rocketfish will be a decent improvement, for the price might as well go for it, try it, if it doesnt work out oh well save for a Coolermaster heatsink. If it does work and you get the clock you want you only had to invest $13, seems like a no-brainer to me. You can also return it correct?

I have purchased 3 items form RocketFish and have only been satisfied once. Bought a cheap 5.1 sound card for the kids machine when his onboard croaked. It sounded like crap. Bought a 120mm fan barely pushed enough air to say it moved air. And lastly I bought there gaming mouse pad (no longer sold) This I love, a friend has one too which he also loves.

My point is there prices maybe cheap but so isn't there quality and performance. That cooler might get you by if you have lots of air flow through the case but if not, then get the better one. My case is an Antec 902. with all case fans on low (6 of them 5x120mm 1x200mm) using Intel burn test my max temp hits 56°C @ 1.52V core volts. max for these are 62°C before really cutting there life down. My case is a wind tunnel, ask your self "if I really want to hit 4.0GHz what is the max I am willing to hit for temp?". That rocketfish cooler can't hold a candle to the cooler master coolers. especially the 212+/Evo.

EDIT: figured you should know that with the fans on high max temp is 52°C @ 21°C ambient temp and run a high pressure fan for a push/pull combo.

I don't know anything about the company Rocketfish, but I know Cooler Master is one of the best brands you can buy. Cooler Master always has top quality coolers at a great price.

IF Evo or 212+ is too expensive, then TX3 is great choice; and you can use your BestBuy money. The Cooler Master coolers are quiet too (use a $10 fan), but I'm not sure about what the Rocketfish uses.
