Dear Forum,
I am using an HDMI cable to supply audio and video to my TV, but when plugged into the PC, it kills my analog audio output. I don't like haveing to unplug the HDMI every time I want to hear something through my PC speakers. Is there a way to switch between the two, or is the sound option gone when the HDMI is connected?
Thanks!
Mike

What motherboard are you using?

Windows XP can play digital and analogue simultaneously, will need to make sure your motherboard allows it or perhaps a setting in the bios to adjust.

Not sure if your sound chip is Realtek (probably is as its common) go into your bios by pressing del on bootup and look for or something like onboard devices configuration, see if there's a setting for Front Panel Type and set from HD Audio to AC97. Maybe by switching it around may enable sound priorities and prevent digital muting analogue.

Good luck.

If you still cant get it to work, look through your manual or manual online and find out if your motherboard will allow it, if not, then a sound card would be your best option. Something from Asus or other reputable sound card with Windows XP support.

I take it that you have a motherboard with on-board HDMI
been a wile since had one of them but from what I remember the option to stop it doing that is in the properties for the graphics card not the sound. a bit more info on your system would help would help

It's a Gigabyte mother board. I emailed them, and they say that it is not possible to have both outputs active simultaneously. I guess I will look into a sound card. Thanks for your help guys!
Sincerely,
Mike
