I have an amd a10-5800k machine that i JUST and i am having graphics problems. In windows experience index it gives me a 4.4 for Graphics and 6.2 for gaming graphics. I heard about some bad batches of these apu's and i was wondering if I need to RMA it. I am pretty mad because this is my first computer i have built and i spent a lot of money on it. Please help...

Solution
APUs are largely dependent on memory speed. How fast is your memory? I don't recommend you getting memory under 1600mhz for an APU.

A 5800k alone should give you less than what I have since I currently have a 5600k paired with a 6670 discrete card in dual graphics and get a 7.1 on graphics. 4.4 does seem quite low.

I would test the APU's performance in real applications and games. If you notice anything unusual then explore what could be causing it. The windows experience index is useless

I have 8GB of G.Skillz Ripjawz X at 1866 MHz. I Overclocked the apu to 4.2 GHz via the amd vision control center or whatever.

That is very interesting! I am running 8GB of 1866 RAM in single channel. I'll have to see if i can borrow a dimm from somebody so i don't have to drop another $50.00 if that is not the solution. Another question. If i can borrow another dimm of ram from someone would it have to be the same frequency?

So are you sure that spending another $50.00 is really worth it. Please note I am 14 and make some money mowing lawns but don't have a real form of income.

If possible, try returning the ram and getting 2x4gb memory. Dual channel memory increases the throughput of the APU graphics which is currently the bottleneck in APUs. You also shouldn't really go by the windows index score. Assess the amount of money you spend on the games you play and acceptable frame-rate. How many ram slots do you have on your computer. If you have 4 slots, are you really trying to get 32gb of ram? You won't ever need that much in the near future unless you do alot of hardcore video editing. No games required that much memory and probably won't in the near future.

Hi Sammyssb - Yes, that is definitely your problem, and yes it will make a big difference in game fps. Like chuyayala said, if you can return the single 8gb stick for 2 x 4gb sticks (buy a 'kit' with 2 matched sticks) you will be all set. If you try to use different speeds (and/or different rated timings) then you will need to find the speed and timings that both sticks will run stably (so both sticks will end up running at the lesser stick's settings). For gaming 8gb will be plenty for the life of your system, so going to 16gb is overkill. So see if you can return the single 8gb stick and get 2 x 4gb sticks.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I will just buy another dimm of 8GB. I think that will be best since i only have 2 slots on my MOBO and will be best for the future. Not decided yet.

Thanks! I think I will just buy another dimm of 8GB for future proofing reasons even if it is a bit overkill, it can't hurt.
