Better to upgrade my CPU or GPU?! (for gaming)

Current Specs:
AMD Phenom x4 965 BE
HIS 7770 OC Edition
8GB Ram

Games played:
WoW, BF3, SC2 Hots. I want to buy Crysis 3 but I was going to wait till I upgrade.

For the CPU, one of the Eight-Core AMD's and for the GPU Crossfire 7770's. I'm not 100% sure what will effect my gaming more. I feel as the Processor is the better option to upgrade but you tell me!

  1. I dont know much about AMD cpu's. But GPUs play a big part in gaming. So you would probably be better off upgrading your GPU.
  2. Hi Jawny,

The cpu woulnt give you much towards gaming. The upgrade to crossfire would. Then save for a new motherboard and cpu combination whenever you can.

  3. crossfiring 2 low end cards isn't really worth it. save for a bigger card.

this card is already great as it is. can handle most games med-high settings on 1920x1080.
  5. I'm little worried about bottle necking as well. Should I be? If I crossfire my 7770.

Sorry, not sure if my last reply went to your reply.

  7. That 965 7770 cf. I would recommend selling the 7770 and getting a 7870/660 though.
  8. best is to overclock that cpu and extract juice from it.you will get more performance.

or sell hd 7770 and grab hd 7850.it will not bottleneck
  9. Two 7770s in a crossfire configuration would give you almost 7950 performance.

You have a pretty good processor as it stands. With the exception of MMORPGs which are more CPU-dependent anyhow (can't do much about this), A CPU upgrade won't make as much of a difference with modern games.
  10. Two 7770s in a crossfire configuration would give you almost 7950 performance.

    WRONG!

don't let benchmark FPS numbers confuse you. People ( reviewers ) who only put up numbers and give no other explanations about real world performance are lazy.
