Hi could you please let me know if the PSU in the below link would run an XFX 7970 Black edition. There are two 6+2 pin PCIE connectors available.

http://imageshack.us/a/img90/3991/psuw.jpg

The writing caught in the glare of the camera flash says 'ATX12 V2/2.3 compatible' and then large font says 'ATX Switching Power Supply'

My other specs:
core i5 2500K OC to 4.4
8 GB corsair RAM
win 7 64
Current card is an HD 7750

Could you also advise what would happen if i tried to run the 7970 and it demanded too much power, is it dangerous?

Thanks for any help.

Solution

Of course, if your psu cannot supply enough power to your graphics card, there are 2 possibility..
1. PSU explode
2. Your graphics card become damaged

Is your psu have 80+ certification..?
if your psu have any picture like below, so it will safe to use..if it's not, well, i suggest not to use it for such an expensive graphics card..:)...

The Psu got combined 40A on 12v rails So yes it should be enough, but how reliable the PSU is for that expensive Rig of yours is questionable. A good CX600w these days doesn't cost much but gives you that peace of mind from corsair also with 3 year warrenty.

Chillblast?

I've never heard about that brand..
Just beware about fake label..
What is written in the label is not always tell the truth..
Use only PSU from the well known brand (exp: crosshair, seasonic, tagan, enermax)..it will save your day..:)

Thank you all for the input, Chillblast is a custom PC builder here in the UK, and this is their basic PSU (This is my first gaming PC and i thought i would be happy with a low end GPU and i m not, surprise, surprise)

The reason I was asking is because A) i dont really want to spend any more than circa £300 on the 7970 and B) im not all that comfortable swapping out the PSU myself, although i m sure i could figure it out.

So what is the worst that could happen if i installed the 7970 on this PSU, could it damage the rest of my system, including the new 7970?
