Which one is dead? GA-Z77X-UD5H or 3770k?

I built a system with a 3770k on a GA-Z77X-UD5H. It was working fine except that I had not connected the CPU fan correctly, so the CPU was overheating. I fixed it yesterday, and the box was then running very well.

This morning, the machine looks dead... It doe not power on at all. No LED on the mother board. I checked the power supply (corsair HX650), did the basic paper clip test, it seems fine...

Do I have a dead mother board or a dead processor?

Alain.

Thanks for your quick response. I checked all connections, they are fine.
Also, nothing happens when I press the big red power button on the mother board...

try disconnecting power from the wall socket and pressing on/off button

then reconnect power and try to turn on

if that doesnt help you may need to remove graphics card , memory etc to see if it helps

its unlikely to have done in the cpu or motherboard

but not impossible i guess

with out another cpu or motherboard to double check its hard to tell

Hi,
i vote your mobo is dead
in a working mobo by pressing power button you must hear the fans working (even withought ram,cpu or gpu) assuming you have a working psu. socket melting due to poor build quality?

(a fools hope) unplug your mobo clear cmos and put it freely on a table only psu connected, and with a screw driver power it, see if psu fan operates.

I'll go buy another motherboard tonight and try it...
The CPU was running at 90C when I discovered the CPU fan was not connected properly.
Should I consider it dead too?

Alain.
