We have windows 7 professional. A few days ago while trying to update the battlefield 3 limited edition game, we were asked to update our windows to windows 8.

My son has friends with windows 7 (vista, xp) - non of them received the windows updating requirement notice.

What should we do?

We updated out windows 7 - 2 days ago - according to Microsoft requirements. We updated both obligatory and optional updates.

on the game's box it says - "battlefield 3 premium edition" - on the pc it says - "battlefield 3 limited edition" - ???

No worries, Win7 should be ok or some site issue with origin, Whatever it says on box or PC but as the owner of premium edition key you will be able to unlock/play the later expansions in your profile online .
