Preparing for a multidisplay setup?

I run with two of these cards in SLI, but can't recommend them because just after they released the 680s, they released 670s with darned-near the same performance. This was a BS move on the part of Nvidia, but that's what I get for being the first to hop on the newest gen upon release. Check this factory OC'd edition of the 670 out:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130787

It will give you the same or better performance than a standard 680 for $70 less.

You can use both the HDMI and DVI ports (or display port for that matter) without a problem on a two monitor setup in an extended desktop mode.

I'm guessing you plan to game on one, but want two monitors for productivity or when you're browsings and doing other tasks?

The card you linked will be very loud under load and expensive for the performance. Unless you're stuck on nVidia, I'd go with:

Or the non-GHz edition and overclock it.

Yes, it should be fine to go with one HDMI and one DVI.

If this is for gaming, and you play FPS or third person, have you considered that your crosshairs/gun or character will be split between the two screens with .75" or more of bezel splitting them? It's not pretty...

I saw that 670 but I am still leaning towards the 680 =/

I might just be ignorant, but can't i use the duplicated desktop mode to have the games show up on only one monitor? I don't plan on just gaming with the desktop, also plan on using two for productivity (one to have the coding program i use, the other for webpages or even videos)

Unless you set it to do so, by default the game will only show on one screen when you have the 2nd set as extended, if you choose the duplicate option i would imagine it would also duplicate the game but it would be the same exact thing on both monitors.

I think i have the name wrong when I say duplicated. Haven't been at home to check my laptop so I can't remember the name of the mode when that is hooked up to my monitor I have now. It isn't duplicated, I just have the home and task bars on one screen when my laptop has the monitor hooked up, but the other screen just has the desktop background on it. I think that might be extended or I'm just confused. Would be a lot easier if I was home to check it out

If you duplicate the desktop, you'll get just that and the game will show up on both monitors. Both monitors will have the same display all the time.

Most newer games can open in windowed mode or fullscreen borderless windowed mode so you can use an extended desktop mode option and run your games on a second monitor while performing other tasks on your primary.

I do love the 680s. They are definitely not a wrong option, but I thought I'd let you know about the whole 670s thing.
