Router troubleshooting for belkin n450 db

Hi I have a belkin n450 that has been acting up. When I first moved into my new house the fiber optic was great, but now it is struggling. My desktop gets 10-15 ms ping with 10 up and down, but my wireless devices at 1 meter away from my router get pings near 150 ms and 8 up 3 down. Also my directv is struggling to download on demand content and my ipad does not recognize the directv receiver.
My troubleshooting:
1. Multiple power cycles/ resets.
2. Factory reset.

Ps I have never altered any settings besides my password.

Is the router need to be junked so I can take advantage of my fiber optic

  1. Try updating the firmware. My ASUS 66u sucked (wasn't the least bit stable) till the most recent firmware versions.

Sorry forgot to mention that it is up to date on firmware
  3. If you plug into the modem directly and your speed improves it proves the router has a issue. If the router is at fault you could try a factory reset and reconfigure it from the start...maybe you get lucky but i bet you will need new router.
  4. wireless transmission can be affected by interference. get an app that can scann all wifi in the local area to find what channels other people near you are using. you want to be the furthest channel away from the majority of everyone else (ie. if: 12 ch6, 1 ch4, 3 ch3, 2 ch2, 1 ch1 - you want ch1 cause it's the furthest away from the most of people (even tho ch5 has nobody...)) Change ur wifi channel, try disabling legacy wifi (a, b, and g if you don't have any g devices), see if you can amp the power a little, turn off the modem, turn off the router (after saving these settings of course), turn on modem and wait for it to come on fully, turn on router and give it a few minutes to turn on. see how ur results are...
