Frozen Dislay during games

I am really hoping that someone can help me with this problem I've been having lately as i have tried various things but to no avail.

The problem I've been experiencing is that when I play games what sometimes happens is that my game will freeze and within a very short time minimize, taking my back to my desktop screen, and I am unable to maximize the game window again (i.e I have to open task manager and close the game and re-open it again). The sound for the game still plays even when minimized and if I attempt to interact during the game I can still hear things happening as I move ect.

What I have tried doing is test my memory with memtest which came up with no errors, ran various anti-spyware and anti-virus tools, checked and update my video drivers, defragged my pc, tested my hard drive with the necessary tools which also came back with no errors and tuned down the graphics in game just in case but still the problem would occur. I should say that it does not always happen, sometimes only once in a given day but other times it might happen quite a few times.

My specs are:
Intel i5 3470 3.2Ghz socket 1155
Western Digital Caviar Green 1Tb SATA 3
700w Huntkey Power Supply
Apacer 2Gb DDR3 1333Mhz (4)
Sapphire HD7770 OC Edition
LG 24x CD/DVD Optical Drive

If there is any program I can do to test this problem that I can download that would be great and any suggestions to help fix this problem will be muchly appreciated.

Here is my pc when its just on Desktop:

If you need anything more please let me know!

Thanks for any help!

  1. Try this as a test: open another application, like Word, keep it on-screen (but not maximized). Run your game. When it minimizes, does Word minimize? If so, then something is forcing all your apps to minimize and is probably not good (malware?, even though you've ran scans). Also check your Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and Application, and see if anything is happening at the time of the minimize. Also take a look at Task Manager to see what processes are running before you run the game, then when it minimizes. Keep it open so you can quickly see if anything new is there. See if any of the processes look unusual, and make sure to check "Show processes from all users".

Of course update all your graphics and other device drivers, too :)
  2. I had similar problem, with Oblivion. Try open task manager-applications-select game and press Switch to. Let me know if this help you
