Does The Amd A10-5800k Work Well With Fraps?

The Reason i am asking, is because i am about to upgrade from an amd a6-5400k which is DIRT SLOW with gaming and fraps to a amd a10-5800k.

For example, if i recorded games like minecraft EVEN on tiny with all graphics on low, i would go from 200 frames to 20 frames per second.

Just to throw this out there, i record gameplay from fraps to a external HDD vs using my OS's HDD.

Also in-case you guys need to know more about my system to awnser this question, here is my System Specs.

System Specs
---------------
Ram: G.Skill Value 4gb (single stick) 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM 1333(PC3 10666)

Gpu: Nvidia Gtx 650 1gb edition

HDD: Seagate Barracuda Green 1TB 5900 RPM

MotherBoard: Biostar TA75MH2 FM2

cpu: Amd a6-5400k (very bad...)

Solution
For an APU you really need 2x8gb of at least 1600, 1866 is even better [even if not using the APU part
Also dual channel is necessary

What is your external HDD drive spec?
usb connection may also be an issue
5900 OS drive is okay but not the best (my broo is running an WD green one, still loads into games pretty fast)

A10 5800k is a lot better, almost doubly so AFAIK in most situations

1600

The first problem is you are using an APU as a CPU. If you have a discreet graphics card why didn't you just get a CPU? With an FM 2 board you are pretty much stuck with what you have.

An APU needs the fastest memory you can throw at it. You have very slow DDR3 and are only using it in single channel. A 2 x 4GB kit of DDR3 2133 would help immensely.

You are using a 5900RPM Green drive for your OS. That alone will make even a much faster system than yours seem slow. If you can't afford an SSD at least get a performance drive that's 7200 RPM.

I'm not sure a CPU upgrade alone will help you with gaming. You have a decent GPU with the GTX 650 but the rest of your computer needs work to be decent at gaming.

Wow, thank you for the quick reply, This is the External HDD i am using

http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/portable-hard-drives/standard/goflex/

Would it be better for me to record on this, or just use my OS's hardrive, Also i didn't say this in the original post, but when i am recording a game, even heavy games like PlanetSide 2, my cpu usage SKY ROCKETS to 100% and my memory usage stays only around 50%. I don't know if that means anything but ill just note it for you in case it does.

mem usage dose not indicate everything as memory speeds are also import ant to consider

your CPU is being hammered as recording games on a dual core is pretty bad so the a10 quad will be a lot better

With USB3, there probably isn't much of a bottleneck in recording, the OS HDD is faster but is negated since the OS and game are using it

Thank you for the for the response,

this was not only my first pc build, but i was on a very low budget for a pc at the time and i still kinda am. I have been looking at benchmarks EVERYWHERE and i know how bad the cpu performance on these things are. I only wanted to upgrade to an amd a10-5800k because i literly cannot use anything involving fraps or multiplayer related games like battlefield 3 and even black ops 2 struggles a bit on multiplayer. And like you stated, this is a board that only supports APUs.

So i know this question is off topic, but should i just save my money and safe up for a new mobo and cpu? Also since i kinda am on a budget, i was looking at the amd fx 6100 pared with a AM+3 mobo which is around 200 dollars. Is this a better idea then spending the money on the a10?

Thank you a lot for these replies

I was also looking at the benchmarks for this apu and it is arond 50% faster then mine in most cpu related tasks. So i have a feeling paring the amd A10-5800k with good fast ram, will defiantly be a more smoother recording experience then what i have now

thank you.

The next gen APU coming out in the fall should have revamped CPU cores that will be about 30% faster than current ones clock for clock

Also the FX6100 is an last gen bulldozer so the a10 is probably about the same performance despite it's lower core count (and most games utilize about 4 cores max)

Yea, your right, i guess it wouldn't harm upgrading to a amd 10-5800k with some good ram then, or waiting for the next gen apu's. Well, Also a lot of people have been crazy about the whole bottleneck craziness, but my cpu is very similar to the A4 and is around 50% slower then an amd A-10 5800k. Also i never mentioned this, but im only just barley lagging in games like battlefield 3 and black ops 2 or Planetside 2. So if we add 50% increase in cpu performance plus good ram, then i believe that this build would be complete and about 100% better.

Thank you so much, i will take the a10 with some ram, also anort3, i really appreciate your replies to, you have helped me understand some serious flaws in my system that i will attend to, but im not choosing the amd a10 because I had my mind set on it, im chosing it because i don't intend on upgrading my graphics card anymore intill a entirely new build, also im not looking for maxed out settings at all, so i think the a10-5800k will suite me nice intill i am ready to fully upgrade again.

Once again thanks again so much guys for helping me out with this decision. And for any one else in the same situation as me, read stickmansam's responses and anort3's to. It will help you like it did for :)

What I would do is wait 2-3 more months and buy the Richland A10-6800K which runs at 4.1GHz base and 4.3GHz turbo and it uses the same socket (FM2) as Trinity so you don't have to upgrade the motherboard.

But the first thing I would do is get 8GB DDR3-1866 CL9 RAM as soon as possible.

1) Fraps looses you a bit of performance regardless of the chip used, but yes a A6 5400K is a dual core that will be heavily saturated Frapping and Gaming.

2) APU's memory bandwidth is vary noticeable, I will be doing a thread soon showing what DDR3 1333 - DDR3 2600 differences in performance delivery, but suffice to say anything below DDR3 1866 is wasting a lot of potential.

3) Don't upgrade to the 5800k, wait for the 6800k in June. Notable iGPU gains.
