am curious here, my RAM speed should be 2133MHZ but its reading around 803mhz#(see picture) i8 think its my PSu since its 450volt or could it be something else? or i just need a bigger PSU?

by the way my ram is G.skill ddr3-2133 (CL11-11-11-30 1.5v-1.6v) just Got it today

A 990FX chipset is best for manual tweaking and overclocking.

There are always gains, but less for gaming, but definitely much more for video encoding/rendering. If you don't deal with large files, or don't want to OC, your current set up is fine. If you want to do some OC, or if you do 3D / video work, then it may be worth it to get a new motherboard.

Thank you

Your RAM is running at DDR 1600 speeds. It's DDR or double data rate so it's 800 x 2 and that's how CPU-Z reads it. You will have to manually set the voltage, speed and timings in BIOS to run at 2133.

It will not really make any difference in your system performance though as the integrated memory controller on your CPU can't make use of anything faster than DDR3 1600. You might get a 1-2% boost in video encoding and extreme multitasking. Nothing worth the extra money for DDR3 2133 though.

i've seen major increase with an overclocked CPU but mostly in rendering, compressing and loading times... If you're running at stock speed don't bother with it...

PS: comparing 4.8ghz 1600mhz CL9 26gbs / 4.8ghz 2133 CL10 28gbs / 4.83ghz 1680mhz cl9 ram 28gbs / 4.83ghz 2240CL10 33gbs

However i did raise the base clock so every transfer gain a 5% from 100 to 105 so it maybe by that too... Also in real life, unless doing video editing like me or any ram intensive apps, you'll surely never notice the difference...
*** all data rounded to the closest GB and in ram copy

The motherboard AUTO default to standard values of DDR3-1600 CL11. You need to enable the enhanced performance profile, or manually input settings to reach the rated specifications. What motherboard and CPU do you have?

Whether clocking the memory at DDR3-2133 or not, settings need to be input because this is not standard memory. Since it is a high speed / performance kit, you can run the memory at DDR3-1600, but also decrease timings to 8-8-8-24, 7-8-8-24, and such to make up for the lower frequency. If you plan to OC the CPU, then you may as well clock the RAM at DDR3-2133 since that is what you purchased.

am talking about how to maximize the ram potential

@ anort3what do you mean by integrated memory controller on your CPU

@gkskill i have amd 8350 and gigabiyte 78lmt-usb3.

i tried to change the voltage manually on my bios but couldnt pass the bios stage. so had to put it back to the default settings..any ideas?

yup latest bios, i also tried again top manually change the speed but couldnt pass the bios got some picture. aloso sadly my manual has nothing about manually changing voltages of ram or cpu

That BIOS is very limited, it is not designed for overclocking. It is probably best to run the memory at DDR3-1600 7-8-8-24 1.60V for optimal performance. Anything higher may not work, or will cause the system to be unstable. Lower frequency and lower timings with stability is better than higher frequency and high timings with less stability.

^ I believe this is correct. In fact on the Gigabyte page for your board it says specifically that DDR3 1333 is the highest speed RAM supported.

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#ov

That's more of a budget board not designed for overclocking.

Edit: On some Gigabyte boards pressing CTRL + F1 while in BIOS will unlock "hidden" BIOS options not otherwise available. Not sure if it works on that board but it's worth trying.

tried f1 no luck ...damn..seems i got screwed over with this motherboard then. which motherboard from GA would you recommend to go with my amd fx8350 and 4gb 2133mhz ram

or any one which you recommend to get full/maximum use out of my RAM and processor

As I said in my first post there is very little gain from faster RAM with current generation AMD or Intel processors due to the memory controller being on the CPU. In gaming the gains are 0. In things like video encoding/rendering or massive multi tasking the gains might be 1-2%. As long as you are able to overclock your processor and run the RAM at DDR3 1600 speeds there is no need to buy a new board. Do you really want to spend over $100 for a 1-2% gain in only some certain situations?
