Hi I recently bought a computer and was wondering if crossfire is possible on my motherboard if I wanted to do it later down the line. I currently have

mobo H77MU3
Chip Intel i5 3470
GPU HD 7850 VTX
8 GB RAM

The board has 1x PCI 3rd gen (currently has GPU in it) and a PCI 2nd gen. Is it likely to be crossfire compatible?

Thanks

Hi unfortunately it DOES NOT support crossfire. Even with a dual GPU in a single slot.

It only has one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, which is the one you should use. Using any other slot on your motherboard will hinder performance greatly, and wouldn't be worth buying a second card. If you really want to get better performance, sell your 7850 and get a 7870XT/7950 or a 660TI. I've used 7850 crossfire and it wasn't that great.

yeah the second one is only 4x (crossfire can work on 4x) but your board isn't certified so even with compatible slot, the bios will not detect the second card or will crash, cause halt on start as it's not supposed to have a GPU here, etc...
