Cooling 7970? Does heat affect performance?

I use realTemp to read the temperatures of my cores and GPU and my cores run pretty hot because I'm using an intel stock fan until my new one arrives next week.

My GPU runs at approximately 150 degrees Fahrenheit and I want to know if that's affecting its performance, and if so is there a reliable way to cool it?

GPU temperatures are usually measured in celcius--you'll wanna use that in the future so it's easier for people to help you.

150 degrees f comes out to about 65 degrees c, which is fine for your GPU.
One question I'm curious about is whether it's 65 on idle (just sitting around doing nothing) or at load, when you're playing a game or something.

If it's 65 at load, that's great. If it's 65 at idle, that's a little high, but it won't hurt your GPU as long as it doesn't go over 80 for an extended period at load.

As a point of reference, two of my gpus run around 40, and one around 50 on idle, with all of them around 75-80 at load.

It gets to that temperature after playing BF3 for 30 minutes or so. I just expected it to be able to run it better since my old computer with a 3-4 year old GPU never had this kind of trouble. (Trying to remember what GPU it had though, want to say it was a GTX 580).

What do you mean by run better? Is it having problems?
And what type of GPU do you have?

Modern GPUs may run a little hotter because they do more work and how demanding their work load is, but 65 degrees at load is a great temp. Especially with BF3.

If you want to cool it off a little more though, you could always try improving the ventilation in your case.

Besides mouse lag(which is more likely a CPU problem) haven't seen any issues.
Gigabyte 7970 Ghz Edition. The fans get loud sometimes and it doesn't irritate me so much as it worries me. And I have new case fans on the way since one of them was dead upon delivery.

I have that same GPU--I love it.
It does get a bit loud, but that's a common theme with 7970s.
You can mitigate it with an aftermarket tool like MSI Afterburner.
I use it to set manual fan profiles that are low (below 50%) until the cards hit 70 degrees or so.

Works much better for me, and almost always quiet.

And the mouse issue is probably a usb/driver issue.
Or it could just be a shoddy mouse.

what version of 7970 do you got?

well if the temperatures are very high they affect the performance through the years not just in short time!
what is the temperatures in celcius when you play a game at max settings?
