Hello all,

I'm trying to build a PC (first timer noob here) with following specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard (Rev 1.3)
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB Video Card
Storage: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Power: Corsair 600 Watt Builder Series CX 600 Modular Power Supply
Optical Drive: LiteOn IHOS104 4x SATA Internal BluRay BD-ROM Drive

Issue:

When powering on for both external and internal builds, POST is fine (I have a speaker) and Gigabyte Splash logo appears, usually for about 10-15 seconds before computer restarts again. Occasionally there is no restart, and logo shows indefinitely. Splash screen gives options to press DEL/F12 to select Boot Setup / Q-Flash etc, but I cannot enter the BIOS Setup to start OS installation.

I've read through Bilbat's excellent Gigabyte Guide and have tried the following based on it:

1. Trying my Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 in every single USB socket (front and back) and spamming the BIOS keys while computer is booting.
2. Used a PS/2 / USB adaptor to use the PS/2 input (having read that it might be that my USB keyboard isn't being recognised due to USB Legacy options not being Enabled).
3. Trying a friend's (wireless) keyboard.
4. Repeatedly breadboarding the mobo to ensure no short circuits (same thing happens external build).
5. Tried isolating corrupt DIMMS - but this shouldn't be the case as POST works for all four. POST works on all permutations bar none.
6. Reinstalling cooler (including replacing aftermarket cooler with stock i7-3770K cooler) - also ensured not too much thermal paste.
7. Ensured all case fans and CPU fans are plugged in and working (they are).
6. Resetting CMOS values by shorting CMOS pin (also, as I type the battery has been out of mobo for about an hour).
7. Trying HMDI and DVI outputs on both GPU and CPU.
8. Ensured x8 and x24 ATX Power Supply are correctly inserted (also, PCI-E power for GPU).
9. Ensuring CPU is correctly inserted and pins are not bent (it is and they are).
10. Tried booting with and without optical drive and storage drive. Also ensured SATA cables were in appropriate SATA connections and that cables are right way around.

I'm thinking of trying to q-flash the mobo using the latest gigabyte bios software - but I cannot force a boot from flash if I cannot enter the BIOS!

This is actually driving me up the wall and I'm pretty much resigned to RMA the board and try a different brand. Is there anything I've missed? :)

Hmmm, thanks Alexoiu. I've contacted the supplier and will be RMAing it - any advice on which board would be a good replacement? I'm going to be looking in a similar price range.

As it is I did consider that one! :) Have gone with ASRock Z77 Pro (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z77pro4). I just hope I can see what I'm doing on a black mobo in a black case... you have your work cut out for you making a colourful rig. :D
