The Procedure entry point EncodePointer could not be located in the dynamic link library, KERNEL32.dll

I keep getting this message regardless of which program I attempt to open. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the programs that I have recently installed. Computer freezes or ignores(?) the commands? The two programs I have been trying to open and receiving this message for most are YAHOO IM & AVG which I just downloaded but cannot begin the install process because of the above message. What's my next step?

  1. Also, I have read the the previous similar posts, and have reset my computer back to safe point, in safe mode. And I don't believe that AVG is a virus.
  2. Yahoo Instant Message requires shockwave Flash object to be enabled in the Tools > Internet Options > Programs > Manage Addons. Show all addons to see if the Shockwave object is enabled. AVG may alse requie the same object.

You might need to upgrade to IE8, though., as the shockwave object version in IE7 or earlier might not be compatible with Yahoo IM or AVG.

Also, you'd need AvgFree version 8 or later.
