On a scale from 1 to 10 (mostly for gaming)...

Hello guys,

I just ordered this new system and was wondering how 'good' you think it is for playing 'heavy' games and other stuff (like multitasking etc.).

Intel i7 3770 4x3.4 Ghz

ATI HD 7870 2048MB GDDR5 (brand: Powercolor)
Detailed info:
Engine Clock: 1000MHz
Memory Clock: 1200MHz x 4 (4.8 Gbps)
Memory Interface: 256bit
DirectX® Support: 11.1
Bus StandardPCIE: 3.0
Display Connectors: DL-DVI-I/ HDMI/2x mini DisplayPort, VGA with an adapter

ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 1155 Z68 ATX DDR3 motherboard

8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666 (brand: G.skill)

No OS yet, think I'll go for the good old Win 7 HP

Toshiba 500GB SATA3 DT01ACA050 7200rpm 32mb

MS-Tech CA-0280 Frozen LongHorn (CR,USB3) case with 750 watt 'Combat Power'

If I need to post more, let me know.

Also: this system costs (including tax and shipping) around €908,-
Is this a good price for all of this?

Thank you very much for your comments!

I did not see the case you´d chosen had a PSU too. It is NOT good at all. Get yourself a case without a PSU. Also, if you are not to get another graphic card for CrossFire, then you will not need a 750W PSU for this building.

For your reference:

COOLERMASTER HAF 932 Tower PC Case http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/coolermaster-haf-932-tower-pc-case-11342074-pdt.html

I see you want to get a comb -- I would get all the parts separate.

To go with a 3570K and a Z77 mobo is a good idea, but the HD 7870 is much better than the GTX 660 Ti.

it's meh. I'll give it a 5 out of 10
There are lots of areas that could use improvement, but that's only said if you are intending for "heavy" gaming. What I mean is, you won't get highest settings in all games now, and only more games will come out that you won't be able to achieve playable frame rates at highest settings. BUT it'll be able to play most games at medium to highest settings for the time being.

thoughts
the GPU is could be a lot better
the CPU is not unlocked
the RAM could be faster
the storage could be more and higher performing
the PSU is off brand (quality/longevity is not guaranteed)

Thank you for your reply.
- I agree that the GPU could be a lot better, but I am not aiming for the performances of a GTX 680. Unless you meant that my specific 7870 could be better?
- I am not aiming to overclock my CPU, for I am not too experienced in such business and I don't want to lose my guarantee on the system.
- The RAM can be easily replaced later on and is relatively cheap to do so.
- Same goes for the size of the HDD (in GB), the rpm of the current one is 7200. I do not know how much of an impact the HDD can have on gaming performance.
- I agree on the PSU.

Damn man, you really need to do some research before you buy something.

4/10 from me.

PSU brand - Never heard of it's not well-known and that in most cases means poor quality and stability.

MOBO - Old 6x MOBOs are a cripple for future GPUs, because PCI-E 2.0 isn't sufficient anymore. PCI-E 2.0 will heavily bottleneck the GPUs you will upgrade to in the future. Get a 7x MOBO, that is the only logic choice.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Ivy_Bridge_PCI-Express_Scaling/23.html - Just watch here. PCI-E 2.0 is about 15% slower compared to PCI-E 3.0 on a GTX 680. The gap will be wider in the future.

CPU - You bought an i7-3770 "non-k" version on a 68 MOBO? That is like buying potatoes with skin and don't have any peeler. However still a great gaming CPU performance-wise, not if you thought of value.

GPU - Good choice, it's a great value GPU. However the CPU is way too powerful compared to the GPU, you should have invested less money on CPU and more on the GPU. That is the main component for gaming!

HDD - Low capacity, however still decent. A standard choice, not good, but not that bad either.

RAM - Speed is way too slow, you can get way better performing RAM. 1600 MHz is my recommendation to anyone, as the price isn't sky high and lower speed RAM is not far in price.

OS - Oh man, people need to leave Windows 7 behind. Windows 8 is a better OS, the metro I know is a problem for PC's not using touch. But everything else is almost like Windows 7. I've used Windows 7 since launch and now I've had Windows 8 since its launch. And I can only recommend not going back. Windows 8 is a much faster and stable OS. It includes built in anti-virus and all sorts of goodies. Not to forget the SSD-like booting times and the lower system requirements, which in theory actually means better gaming performance.

If you can cancel that order, then do so. There is no reason buying such a PC at that price.

Thank you for your reply. I think my motherboard has PCI-E 3.0 slots: http://www.dragoncomputers.nl/products/mb/ASUS/P8Z68-V-PROGEN3/001.jpg

Are you sure my RAM is not 1600 MHz?

The site is here (some parts in Dutch): http://www.dragoncomputers.nl/component/page,shop.product_details/flypage,shop.flypage_new/product_id,1676/category_id,110/manufacturer_id,0/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,72/

EDIT: what about this system then?:

It has a 3570K and a GTX 660 Ti for €30,- extra...

Thank you for your advice. I think that I should have noted that this system is pre-built. I looked up the same components on a Dutch site (tweakers.net) that compares all the prices etc. and the difference between getting this pre-built system and building it myself (which I don't think that I can do properly) is a mere €40,-. RAM can be upgraded, PSU can be replaced, and I am not interested in overclocking. Thanks!
