I need to get an internal CD/DVD drive for a new build, but found out recently that the one I was thinking about getting, an ASUS is only compatible with Windows XP/7. I want to get Windows 8.

Do you know of any good reliable internal CD/DVD drive/burner that is compatible with Windows 8 and less than $30?

Solution

Ah I see... well the win8 driver should eventualy popup in the asus or other site, without driver no hardware can function.

what about this a solution I found on web?

try this soft http://download.cnet.com/Adaptec-UDF-Reader-Driver/3000-2100_4-10021086.html?tag=mncol;1
this program can recover the missing dvd drive when you install it, if your dvd drive is not shown then it said you to reboot your system. then after reboot you can have your dvd drive back .

You are overthinking this. He thinks that because the store page for the drive says windows vista it will not work past that.

Now.. DVD drives do not have drivers you download, they use a generic driver built into windows.

So I should just ignore those OS requirements then?

Ignore REQUIREMENTS no. When it says it requires Vista that means Vista or later, because before vista there were no native SATA drivers for windows, they had to be downloaded separately.
