Macs are overpriced

I am in the market for a new desktop PC because my MacBook is 7 years old, and I don't feel like forking out $3,500 for a system that will do all that I need. My problem is that I don't know anything about building a PC or what hardware specifications will be necessary for the tasks I will be performing on the PC. I'll be using it for drawing (Sketchbook Pro), 2D animation (ToonBoom), music recording and production (GarageBand), and HD Video Editing (iMovie). Gaming isn't really a concern. That's what my PS3 is for. Could anyone suggest a list of hardware specifications based on this list of tasks? I'm trying to stick to a budget of around $1,000, but don't base your recommendations on that. I really just want to know what will be completely necessary for the aforementioned tasks. Also, I'm interested in turning it into a Hackintosh, so I'm trying to stick to Intel. Thanks in advance for any guidance that is offered.

Relatively speaking, Macs are not overpriced. Now that it has been said, lets move on to a PC build. I will list some specs for ya. Intel quad core cpu (low end), 8GB Corsair 1600mhz 1.5v memory, Z77 ASRock motherboard, 128GB Samsung SSD, 1TB Western Digital hard disk, 520w Seasonic power supply, any case you want (make sure it fits the motherboard you buy), DVD burner. I shop at www.newegg.com. As far as making a hackintosh, don't bother, just get Windows 7 64 bit. That should all come in around a grand leaving you some room for choices and budget. Hope that gets you started.

Thanks for the detailed advice. You're probably right about Mac prices. I was just under the impression that PCs could perform the same tasks while costing less. Why do you say "As far as making a hackintosh, don't bother?" I am used to using iMovie and GarageBand. Are there applications for Windows that can do the same things without a huge learning curve? Or is making a hackintosh too complicated? Also, as far as the case goes, would a full tower be the best idea?

Thanks again!
