Either is fine there are fanboys of each. Go for the best price you can find of either.
I would go 7970 because you get bio shock and Chrisis 3 free with purchase right now.

Personally, I'd take the 670 as I find I like them better especially with 120 Hz monitors, but look at the "Related resources" listing below and you'll see a dozen and more identically named threads that ya can pick advice from.

Although Asus doesn't need to hand pick the GPUs anymore, I still use a lot of the Asus DCII cards

Hard to argue that either choices is wrong but the 670 (2.24% .... up 0.13% in last month) has outsold the 7970 (0.92% .... up 0.11% in last month) by a bit under 2.5 to 1

It may well depend on the deal being offered on the day you buy.

GO FOR THE GTX680 IF NOT THAN RADEON HD7970 3GB GDDR5 ( SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7970 3GB GDDR5 )

EDIT: GTX 670 NO MATCH FOR A HD7970 BUT FASTER THAN HD7950

NOTE: AMD DRIVERS GETTING BETTER AND SOON 7950 MIGHT ENDUP BEATING 670 SO IS THE 7970 BEATING 680.

Well if price is of no concern i recommend Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 7970 GHz OC 3GB http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4ZyDThpvAc The 670 and 7970 perform basically the same at stock up to 1080p resolution, trading blows depending on the game. The 7970 most likely will OC better and it will murder the 670 at high resolution (and has way more compute power), the 670 gives you CUDA , PhysX, TXAA, FXAA, ADap. Vsync etc and lower power draw. Both are solid buys.I have two 670's and love them i don't have any issues. If you still can't decide which card to take try looking at the games that you play or specific features that you want.If cost really matter to you then you might want to go with whatever is cheaper to you. EDIT -The 7970 is a whopping, massive, ENORMOUS 4.2% faster than the 670 Lol. HardOCP did a full review on adaptive vsync, was impressed with it if you want to know further details about it: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/04/16/nvidia_adapti...

my vote for the 7970. Better performance for the price. with the gtx 670, you get phys x, but i have not needed it once yet.

7970, especially since the newest drivers, punch in a little overclock and you are at or past gtx 680 or 7970 ghz edition levels.

After having a GTX 670 for a couple of months I will go for the 7970 the AMD drivers are just better. Nvidia has a long way to go in the driver department sad to say. There Surround mode is far behind AMD and just plain does not work with Windows at all, well if you want to actually do anything that is. I had been away from Nvidia for awhile it sad to see Nvidia drop the ball on there drivers so bad to make there hardware almost worthless.
