What to Buy First: CrossFire or Monitor

I'm kind of in a tight squeeze for money right now, I currently have about 450USD I'm willing to spend on CPU hardware. I'm looking to upgrade my setup and I have come to conclusion I can only do one of the following:

-Buy a BenQ XL240T or Asus VG248QE, to replace my current 60Hz (23inch HDMI 1080 etc) monitor with a 120/144hz monitor. Then run my games at a lower quality to get more frames (currently running a 7950).
-OR buy a second 7950 and CrossFire it, one of the main reasons for this option is that it comes with the new Bioshock and Crysis. But then I'm met with the dilemma of my CrossFire 7950's being bottle-necked by my monitor.

Specs are in signature.

crysis 3 at 1080p will not be bottlenecked. with 2 gtx 670 i can pull bewteen 36-46 fps on crysis 3 ultra MSAA 8x AF 16x. some games may not need that much juice at 1080p but some do. i would get the crossfire first then your monitor second. its better to have too much juice then not enough for games IMO

Just looking for a smoother looking screen (im willing to crank BF3 down to med to get 150fps), and would my specs be able to support two 7950s?
I also heard the jump from 60-120hz is the like when we all jumped from console (30fps) to 60fps.

DRRRRRRRRTTTAAADRRRRRRRR...lol

back on topic...some people just like 60-120 fps @1080p and that is when those cards are not overkill. personal preference is always important when building a rig.

There is absolutely no point having 120 fps on a 60 Hz monitor . It can only ever display 60 fps .
Once you hit 60 fps any extra money you spend is utterly wasted . You'd be better off setting fire to the money

with a 3d monitor and specs like atomic has?

not sure i agree as i can see a difference myself (if vsync is not enabled) between 60 and 120fps on a 60hz monitor/hdtv. yes i understand 60hz means only 60 frames can be displayed but i can see it and have used fraps to "test" myself. all that said though 36-46 fps i get in crysis is below the 60 fps mentioned.

also i meant 60-120 as preference not for me per say but other people. some monitors do have 120hz refreshes...though admittingly not my HDTV.

in 3d yes there is....you get 60hz per eye.. 120hz.

Not on a 60 Hz monitor . It can only EVER make a total of 60 fps no matter what FRAPS or any other program is reporting

But that is how a 120 Hz monitor works in 3D .

yes...the human eye see's at 60fps (if you ask a doctor). that said some people claim like myself to be able to distinguish as high as 120-180 fps...me up to 140fps. you can load fraps up to test your eyes and try guessing (without looking at the counter) to see if you can tell the difference.

enough off topic though!

get that crossfire!

TV , bluray = 24fps . Looks smooth enough

In practice if I dont drop under 40 it makes no difference to game play

And if you have a 60 HZ monitor then head for your graphics driver and enable vSync which sets your frame rate output from the graphics card at the frequency the monitor is set to run at , then turn your image details UP till the frame rate starts dropping below 60
