i am building a budget gaming pc will play all kinds of modern games for example nfs the run, battlefield 3 tomb raider etc.

i will not be overclocking at all

i will be playing at resolution 1024x768 or 1366x768

i will be playing at low to mid settings

i was considering a i3-3220 but i read that games to be released may require a quad core

i will be using 8 gb of ram

also which chipset should i go for b75 or h77 (please keep in mind i am building a budget pc around 550$)

More about : 4300 7770 3470 7750

i would go with the intel build unless you went with an fx 8350 or maybe an fx 8320...they are eight module quad core cpus

i3-3220 or fx-4300 with hd 7770 as at that level the 7770 will be more useful rather than the CPU. You can also pair a 3220 or FX-4300 with 7850 if you got a Good 400w PSU if you want the PC to handle games in the coming few years as games tend to go more and more GFX card hungry.

Edit: H77 chipset if intel which retains most functions of the Z77 (z77 for k series only you don't need). Thanks

amd 8 cores are not true octo cores..just like 3770 has 4 cores and 8 threads...amd fx8000 series has 4 modules and each module as two 'cores"....those modules are more akin to a true core and the "cores" akin to hyperthreading though they have more reasources then hyperthreading.

Yes newer games require quad core for better performance, but i3 3220 will be sufficient as it has hyper threading.
I would go for an i3 3220 with 7770 or 7850 or GTX 650Ti. I am using i3 2120.
I am also from India and I know the prices here are high. Can you tell me your budget in INR?
Also at 1366x766 resolution 7770 will also be an overkill I think.
Anyway, tell me your budget. And try getting a branded PSU, local shops sell cheap PSU's.
