I currently have a 600w PSU which is a bad brand. It is running at 22amps on the 12v rail and has no 6-pin power connector I was wondering if I could run a Hd radeon 7770 on it.

My system includes a FX-4100, 8gb of ballistics ram running at 1600mhz, 1tb hard drive, DVD-drive and 2 fans and of course my old graphics card a 6450.

I know I really should upgrade my PSU but i really don't have the money to do it as I am a student and Learning to drive.

And any other ideas for a graphics card running around £100 to £120 ?

Ok thanks I was just wondering could my PSU handle it and I Know I will require Molex to 6-pin. So overall my PSU will be able to handle it ? Any other ideas for graphics cards that might not put that much strain on my PSU ? My monitor isn't hd by the way.

its not the stress of that gpu per say...its just cheap psu's can shorten a systems life significantly. any gpu u get you run the same risk. wattage wise though you are fine with the 7770. you can find two four pin molex to pcie adapters on newegg or frozencpu.com...even some cards come with them

I would really recommend upgrading the PSU before adding any graphics card to the computer. 22A on the 12V rail gives you 264W (provided the PSU can actually do that) usable, a full 1/3 of that is needed by the CPU, your unit can draw up to 250W just from the 12V rail - that's cutting it a lot closer than I would be comfortable with. Off hand I know of no graphics card to recommend that doesn't want some kind of additional power, perhaps a GT640 or... hmmm

Is it a single rail power supply?

I have 22 amps(22 x 12 = 264 watts @ 12 volts) on my 300 watt unit. That would be the lowest powered 600 watt power supply ever made.

Can I get a picture of this power supplies label.

@ C12Friedman.
What can draw 250 watts? The 7770? I sure hope not, Techpowerup has the stock 7770 @ 83 watts MAX and a hair over 100 for an overclocked one.

For no extra power, I would go with a 7750 :)

That's a really low rating for a 600w, 22A puts it at able to deliver 264 watts on the 12v line, does it have 2 +12v ratings or is it really just a 300 watt power supply with a 600watt sticker on it? Normally I shrug off people asking for power supplies because machines these days with one video card are almost always under 300 watts unless you have some crazy setup, but if you really only have 1 12v rail and its' only rated at 22A then that's really bad. The machine will probably use 200-250 watts, which is about 75-95% of it's rated capacity. Running cheap stuff at that close to it's rating is probably a bad idea.

Ok... For example i'm running a 6450 atm System has been running fine for months now. If i changed it and replaced it with a 7750 would it make much difference as It doesn't require a connector and runs completely of the Pci slot like the 6450 so would it be a safer bet ? Even though the 7750 is worst than the 7770 ?

It only has one 12v rail with 22 amps but the 5v rails and 3.3v rails have alot more amps like the 5v has 43amps i think and the 3.3 has 30amps I think. Its an older Psu i think. The person who made my computer went cheap as I give him a budget of like £60 for the PSU alone and He got a £20-£30 one :/

Yeah that sounds about right for an older design from the days when power supplies did not use so much 12 volt current.

I would HIGHLY recommend keeping an eye out for a better power supply as some of those cheap/old ones can take out parts of the system if they fail.

22 amps on its on(300 watt power supplies) CAN run a 7770 as long as the rest of the system is kept fairly light.

I currently run a I5 750 (udervolted for power savings) 650 ti 1 hdd and 1 ssd fine off a 300 watt power supply. The thing rarley passes 150 watts if I game and watches video under 50 watts with a dead idle from 23-31 watts according to my ups(this is input so the dc output is actually not even as high).

Yes computers can be rather efficient

Tbh I cant even find my PSU on the internet and I dont know what it is in terms of Atx ect...

What are your thoughts every one. Because some of the comments say no and then others show me what they can run on 300W Psus sorta confused can I run a 7770 or should I go with a 7750 ?

Hope this is ok.

Whats sort of information do you want of it ? I thought it was the main information needed ? Here a link to someone selling the same PSU:

i had already been to said link the psu sticker is not legible.

"Whats sort of information do you want of it ? I thought it was the main information needed ? "

like whats the max sustained output (not just max), max combined wattage per Voltage plane, current, etc....to name a few

All that is extra on that sticker is the wattage just convert the amps to wattage to get the information needed ?
